Benedictine Sisters Monastery

This major undertaking and Capital Improvement Project had been in the works for over 10 years. The project touched many important elements of this 200-acre property, which had been home to the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia for 120 years. First, we widened the main road into the campus and expanded a bridge to make it safer for all who came onto the campus. The project also included wet and dry utility systems for the entire campus. Finally, we constructed a one-story, 50,000 SF facility that became home to 40 or more sisters. The residential sector of the facility included a new commercial-sized kitchen and dining hall. Gathering and social rooms added to the sisters’ comfort. The new chapel area featured private prayer rooms and confessional rooms, and the facility also included office areas as well as a suite for doctors and nurses. Additional phases included the demolition of the current Monastery and the creation of a park in its place, along with an age- restricted multi-family housing development.
